The Yankees are crushing the Red Sox (on Facebook)

Today is opening day for Major League Baseball. That means spring is here (you wouldn't know it based on the weather in New York) and it's time for sports' most storied rivalry: The New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox.

According to Facebook, the world's largest social network, the rivalry is over, and the spoils to go the Yankees who absolutely dominate:

In fact, it's not even close: compared to the Yankees' 8.7 million Facebook followers, the Red Sox trail with just 5.3 million.

Zoomed in, one can even see that the Red Sox appear to be in a Facebook decline as of late while the Yankees continue to build:

The Red Sox do have one top stat going for them: the highest payroll in all of baseball (the Yankees take spot #7, their lowest payroll rank in years). Congrats?
