The Mueller Report is an Amazon best-seller... But not on Kindle

The Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election — AKA the Mueller Report — documented and made a conclusion on Russian interference in the 2016 election in which Donald J. Trump become the 45th President of the United States. So far this year, the two-volume, 750+ page document has ruled the news cycle, with journalists dissecting it, politicians asking question, and Trump launching tweet storms.

Amazon ($NASDAQ:AMZN) stocked several versions of The Mueller Report, and according to data taken from April 25 onwards, one version of it is a best-seller in the Amazon books category.

There are multiple published copies of the report for sale on Amazon, the largest e-commerce website in the world. A Kindle version didn't sell as well by a large margin.

The most popular-version of The Mueller Report held an average ranking of 1.46 across 13 days of data from April 25, as it topped the bestseller ranking charts since its release to the public.

On May 3, The Mueller Report was dethroned by the only force capable of being more important than a federal investigation: Dr. Seuss during graduation season. "Oh, the Places You'll Go" took the number-one spot on the Amazon best-seller charts for one day.

However, Mueller's report technically outsold the most basic graduation book on the market because it had multiple versions listed. Further down on this list, "The Mueller Report: The Final Report of the Special Counsel into Donald Trump, Russia, and Collusion" ranked at 27.

Looking back at bestseller rankings on April 25 reveals a few other versions that were best sellers days after it was released to the public.

While the physical copy of the book sold well, the digital version didn't quite take off on Kindle a week after it was released to the public.

This seems rational; anyone can read The Mueller Report online, so why buy a copy on the Kindle Store?

But then that leads to another bigger question: why spend $10 on a physical copy on the report when you can just print it out? Is The Mueller Report being treated as a bookshelf badge of honor? Or are people actually taking time to read the 768 page document and drawing conclusions from it?

That is one question we wish we had alternative data for, rather than the alternative facts some are saying about the report itself.
