Over the weekend, New Zealand privacy commissioner John Edwards called Facebook ($NASDAQ:FB) "morally bankrupt pathological liars" in the wake of the Christchurch attacks, pointing out that the social media network was the hosting platform for the livestream of the shooting.

Earlier in the week week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised that Facebook will stop "bad actors" from manipulating the 2020 U.S. Presidential election in a recent "Good Morning America" interview, doing so in the shadow of yet another controversy involving user data security and privacy.

While Facebook continues to defend itself against further scrutiny over privacy and policing its own platform, the company is increasing hiring for privacy-related positions. The latest hiring spree for privacy-related positions is taking place in the Asia-Pacific region.

As of April 6, there are 67 job openings that contain the word "privacy." That's an increase of 19.64% since we last wrote about Facebook's privacy crusade last month.

One of the main reasons why this increase happened was due to an influx of "Privacy Policy Engagement Manager, APAC" positions. Over the past month, Facebook listed seven such jobs, which are based out of Sydney, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bangkok, Singapore, and Manila.

Combined with some other interesting job additions, these APAC-based openings show signs that Facebook may be putting serious human capital into figuring out its privacy problem.
