Del Taco: The other fast-food chain that won't open in New York
New Yorkers often lament the fact that In-n-Out burger won't open a store in their neck of the woods. Considered by some as makers of the best burger outside of Shake Shack, the chain enjoys cult-like status, secret menus and all.
But for this Southern-California native-now-living-in New York, the chain most-missed is a humble little Mexican restaurant called Del Taco ($NASDAQ:TACO). It's best enjoyed via drive-thru at 3:15am, and one should always order Del Inferno sauce whether the intended food item is a burrito or a burger.
It's a good place. A very good place.
But, like In-N-Out Burger, its owners haven't opened shop in New York. Also like In-N-Out, Del Taco was started in California and, despite somewhat recent expansions into the midwest and southeast and over 580 stores to its name (it's no slouch), New Yorkers are still left with a sad state of affairs when it comes to fast, tasty late-night Mexican food. And, no, Taco Bell is not a worthy option.
The company's CEO, John D. Cappasola, Jr., appears to be well-liked, at least according to our Glassdoor ranking data:
So, as a monument of the world's best chili-cheddar fries, we present to you the sad state of Del Taco locations. That is, if you're a New Yorker.
