America's private detention centers mapped
Today, the #TrumpCamps hashtag is trending on Twitter as digital activitsts react to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez comparing US detention facilities for migrants to concentration camps.
Many of these detention facilities are run by private companies, Geo Group ($NYSE:GEO) and CoreCivic ($NYSE:CXW) the largest of the lot. In 2017, GEO Group made $184 million from taxpayer dollars to run its facilities. CoreCivic pulled in $135 million that same year for immigration detention centers.
We mapped out where those two companies operate their detention centers, mostly as a data point for those curious.
